The First Thirty Million Allocated toward the Trans-peninsular Train Project to Run from Merida to Mayan Riviera

 
State and federal authorities announced that Yucatan will receive resources equaling more than 30 million pesos to concrete the first steps of the Trans-peninsular Rail Project.
Governor Rolando Zapata Bello and Secretary of Communications and Transport, Gerardo Ruiz Esparza signed the collaboration agreement that will allow the transfer of federal resources to perform the preliminary studies of the project to be started later this year or early 2014.
During the event, Ruiz Esparza explained that these resources will be allocated to cover the first environmental studies and the preparation of financial and business plans in order to start the bidding of the railway as soon as possible.
 
In the event held at the Government Palace, Zapata Bello stressed the importance of rehabilitating the railway system in the southeastern part of Mexico to ensure the state and the region has an equal opportunity and includes social economic development, which will result as a strong support to the tourism and trade industry.
In the ceremony, the official announced the installation of a committee conformed of various state and federal officials to monitor and report on a monthly basis the progress and situations that may arise during the project.
The train will run from Merida to Punta Venado, in Quintana Roo with several stops along the way probably Valladolod, Chicen Itza, Coba, Tulum and Playa del Carmen (CALICA, Punta Venado). It will have a length of 278 kilometers, using the current plot to install the new railways to take advantage of the existing railway permits.
